DESCRIPTION:STATE SMOG CHECK INSPECTOR LICENSE \nThe Inspector license allows an individual to inspect and certify the emission control systems on vehicles subject to the Smog Check Program at licensed Test Only or Test and Repair stations in all Smog Check program areas of California. \nTo qualify to take the examination\, the applicant must meet\nOne of the following three requirements: \n1. Successfully complete the BAR specified Engine and Emission Control Training (Level1)\, AND successfully complete the BAR Smog Check Training (Level 2) within the last two years; OR \n2. Certification:\nPossess certification from the National Institute for Automotive Service Excellence (ASE) in all three of the following areas: A-6 Electrical/Electronic Systems\, A-8 Engine Performance\, and L-1 Advanced Engine Performance Specialist\, AND have successfully completed the BAR Smog Check Training (Level 2) within the last two years; OR \n3. Education/Experience: \n    Possess an Associate of Arts or Associate of Science degree or higher in Automotive Technology\, from a state accredited or recognized college\, public school\, or trade school\, AND have one year automotive repair experience in the engine performance area\, AND have successfully completed the BAR Smog Check Training (Level 2) within the last two years; OR\n    Possess a certificate in automotive technology\, from a state accredited or recognized college\, public school\, or trade school with a minimum of 720 hours of course work that includes at least 280 hours of course work in the engine performance areas\, AND have one year of automotive repair experience in the engine performance area\, AND have successfully completed the BAR Smog Check Training (Level 2) within the last two years; OR\n    Have a minimum of two years of automotive repair experience in the engine performance area\, AND have successfully completed the BAR specified Diagnostic and Repair Training (alternative training) within the last five years\, AND have successfully completed the BAR Smog Check Training (Level 2) within the last two years. \nDocument\nEnrollment Agreement\nINSPECTOR LICENSE CURRICULUM \nEngine and Emission Control Training (Level 1) is only required for Inspector license candidates with minimal or no experience. The training is a minimum of 68 hours in length and covers: \n    Personal\, shop\, equipment and vehicle safety practices\n    Engine theory\, design and operation\n    Identification of engine systems\, parts and components\n    Emission control system theory\, design and operation\n    Identification of emission control systems\, parts and components\n    On Board Diagnostics (OBD II) systems\n    Ignition timing inspection\n    Exhaust gas recirculation systems \nSmog Check Training (Level 2) is required for all Inspector candidates.
