Smog Check Repair Technicians must renew their Smog Repair License every 2 years.

Smog Check repair technicians are required to complete 12 hours of update training every two years as part of the license renewal process.  This course will satisfy the BAR criteria for 12 hours of continuing education credit.

The training course is intended to provide licensees continuing education on changes in automotive technology, new and revised inspection procedures, and updates to the laws and regulations impacting the Smog Check Program.

Training topics vary by course.

 Students who successfully complete the course will receive a Certificate of Completion via email from the Bureau of Automotive Repair (BAR)

If you are updating your Smog Check Inspector License you must complete the 4-hour Smog Inspector Update training on the California Automotive Resource Center (CalARC) website located under the “Training” tab.
