New Inspector & Repair Technician License Information:
New Inspector and Repair Technician Licenses Will Replace Existing Licenses Beginning August 1, 2012, a new Smog Check Inspector license and Repair Technician license will become available.
Existing Basic Area (EB) and Enhanced Area (EA) Technician Licenses that expire on or after August 1, 2012, will not be renewed. Instead, you must choose to renew as a licensed Smog check Inspector (EO), a licensed Smog Check Repair Technician (EI) or both.
The license renewal form will provide the option for you to choose one or both of these new license classifications.

NOTE: BAR is now accepting individual taxpayer identification numbers (ITINs) for an individual applicant that does NOT have a social security number (SSN).

The BAR Licensing unit telephone hours are 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Monday through Friday.
The current processing time for initial business applications is 4 to 6 weeks. The current processing time for technician applications is 2 to 4 weeks. Please call to check the status of your application during regular phone hours if you have not received your license or registration within 6 weeks.
